Step into the fascinating field of Genetics. Eye color, hair color, height, disease and even personality traits are affected by the genes passed on to you from your parents. Campers extract real DNA from strawberries, explore the elegant double helix structure of DNA, and discover how chromosomes and base pairs influence traits. The daily art projects thoughtfully compliment the science concepts. Put your lab coat on, and explore what makes you so unique.
Do you ever wonder how bridges span vast distances and skyscrapers soar into the sky? In this hands-on STEAM camp, students become structural engineers as they design, build, and test bridges and skyscrapers using modular construction pieces while exploring forces like tension and compression. Explore the concept of strain, or deformation. Through exciting model-building challenges, campers experiment with trusses, arches, cantilevers, and suspension bridges to discover how strength, stability, and geometry work together. The ultimate challenge: can you build a tall or expansive structure that is also strong and stable?
