Captivate S.T.E.A.M. Camp Jr. is a day camp for ages 7-9 which incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics into the activities for each week. The science lab investigations and art projects are thoughtfully intertwined in this camp.

Our S.T.E.A.M. camp inspires each child with individualized attention and problem solving projects, and is kept intentionally small so that children can build relationships with each other and the staff.

2024 Themes for S.T.E.A.M. Camp Jr.

Jr. Rockhound - Crystals, Gems and Jewelry

Identify beautiful minerals, grow dazzling crystals from a supersaturated solution, and build your own sparkly geode model.  Create lovely jewelry from mineral “gems” and create mineralogy-inspired works of art in this fun S.T.E.A.M. camp.

Jr. Biologist - Animal Adaptations

How do animals compete for limited resources with one another to survive in often challenging environments? Campers will dive into the mysteries of why such different animals have such similar bone structures in their feet, investigate how birds use their specialized beaks to maximize food consumption, and explore evidence of evolution.  Investigate the adaptations for survival for the barn owl, and do a dissection to determine which species of prey were consumed by this ferocious raptor. The culminating activity will be to design your own creature with specialized adaptations.

Jr. Physicist - Optical Science Meets Op Art

It is awesome how optical illusions can trick your brain. Discover the science behind optical illusions that will make your head spin.  Create exciting Op Art projects using vivid lines and color.  If you love color, you won’t want to miss this colorful camp! Shakespeare once said, “The eyes are the window to your soul.”  Learn about how your eyes gather information that gets interpreted (or misinterpreted at times), by our brains.

Jr. Polymer Chemist - It’s Slime Time!

Who doesn’t LOVE making slime?  Try out a variety of different recipes to get the “perfect” slime.  Some will be stretchy, some will be bouncy, some will be fluffy and some will even glow in the dark. Explore the chemistry of polymers, super long-chain molecules,  to understand why slime behaves the way it does. Create amazing art projects each day and run around getting lots of outside playtime.
