Captivate S.T.E.A.M. Camp Jr. is a day camp for ages 8-10 which incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics into the activities for each week. The science lab investigations and art projects are thoughtfully intertwined in this camp.
Our S.T.E.A.M. camp inspires each child with individualized attention and problem solving projects, and is kept intentionally small so that children can build relationships with each other and the staff.

2022 Themes for S.T.E.A.M. Camp Jr.
My First Chemistry Kit
NEW for 2022!
Identify chemical reactions by doing hands-on chemistry labs specifically designed for young kids. Observe color change, bubbling gas, inflating balloons, and so much more. Use pH indicators like litmus paper and cabbage juice solution. Investigate the incredible Periodic Table of the Elements. Daily art and craft projects will compliment the science or engineering principles. All materials included in the cost of the camp.
Simple Machines: The Power of Work
NEW for 2022!
The core of the camp is hands-on building of models for the 6 basic simple machines: wheels and axles, levers, pulleys, inclined planes, screws, and wedges. Art or craft projects accompany each investigation to help the students process the utility or aesthetic of these basic engineering elements. All materials included in the cost of the camp.
Remote Control Animal Machines
NEW for 2022!
Create up to 8 amazing, infrared remote control animal models. Choose from a mobile model of the penguin, crab, rabbit, scorpion, elephant, orangutan, T-Rex, or Pteranodon. This is essential for the student interested in robotics - a popular elective in most area high schools. All materials included in the cost of the camp.
Gemology - Crystals, Rocks and Minerals
Explore minerals and crystal shapes, the 3 basic rock types and the rock cycle, identify minerals through tests, and crack open your own geode to reveal the hidden crystals inside. Create stunning paintings of geometric minerals and glittering geodes. All materials included in the cost of the camp.
Electricity & Magnetism
Explore electricity with easy snap-together blocks, and investigate the relationship between electricity and magnetism. Play with a motor and an electromagnet. Create a striking electric field painting. All materials included in the cost of the camp.
Animal Adaptations
How do animals compete for resources and survive in challenging environments? Why do totally different animals have terribly similar bone structures? How do birds use specialized beaks to maximize food consumption? Campers will investigate the adaptations for survival for the barn owl, and do a dissection to determine which species of prey were consumed by this fierce predator. The culminating activity will be to design your own creature with specialized adaptations. All materials are included in the cost of the camp.
Optical Science
Investigate light, color and optical illusions and learn about lenses and how our eye and brain work together to make sense of what you see. Create incredible works of art highlighting mind-boggling optical illusions.
