Our COVID-19 Strategy
We are supporting families during COVID-19 with half-day interactive virtual summer camps, where students get to keep all the Art and Science Kits
We will offer a half-day interactive digital camp with live instructors and customized science and art material kits for you to keep, all included in the price of the camp. These camps will have the same themes and dates as previously advertised, but will be modified for the half-day schedule. This digital camp will run 9 am to 12 noon and will include science labs, fine arts and other enrichment through Zoom. Since you keep the supplies, this will allow for more learning to happen outside of the camp time.

Science Smart Kids Inc. (Camp Captivate) takes the safety and health of our community very seriously, and we have decided to eliminate all physical camps at school sites for the summer of 2020. We have continually monitored the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic and are studying the ever-changing recommendations of the Center of Disease Control (CDC) as well as the Santa Clara County Public Health Department. We are researching best practices and are actively monitoring recommendations and input of the American Camp Association and fellow camp directors. We believe that virtual camps are the safest and most responsible alternative for the summer camp program.
Our “Safety Plan” and “Staff Training Modules” have been adapted post COVID-19 to increase cleanliness and decrease possible person to person transmission, and we will use this when we are able to resume traditional physical camps at school sites in 2021. We will continue to monitor updates at the federal, state and local level. At this point, we believe we can service our families best with a virtual camp product which is hands-on and process-based at its core.
We have surveyed our customers and we have learned that parents are interested in half-day but not full-day programming, and parents and kids want hands-on, experiential learning. The surveys also told us that parents would like hands-on weekly enrichment classes starting in the spring, during the shelter in place. As a company, we have invested a great deal of time and energy to produce an innovative virtual camp program with live teachers who will interact and engage your child. The beauty of these virtual camps is that you will get to keep the science kits and art kits forever, and this can serve for endless hours of extensions long after the camps are over. If you have additional questions or feedback, please email Ildiko Stennis, the Camp owner, at ildiko@sciencesmartkids.com.
